Haley Goodlett at Gallery Ten10 April 8th

Gallery TEN10 Reception April 8th, 6pm-9pm: Haley Goodlett, Chris Arcus, Steve Wetlesen

Gallery Ten10 is pleased to announce the opening art exhibit featuring the paintings of Haley Goodlett. Haley, originally comes from Kentucky and attended Norte Dame de Namur University. Her work is abstract and figurative and displays organic, fluid and vibrant qualities. She also enjoys working with various textures such as glitter, stones and sequins.

As a legally blind artist, Haley’s work is inspirational, meditational and ever-changing. Her work seeks to release a part of the viewers' subconscious to trigger a creative being or to help the viewer find a sense of peace.

Chris Arcus has read his poetry at various venues in the South Bay, including Gallery TEN10. Also a musician, Chris brings a free flowing Jazz like sound to his poetry about the human condition and his own personal take on love and the range of life emotions and situations

Steve Wetlesen, a commissioned poet will be sharing his unique combination of instant poetry and instant sketching to create wonderful portraits of gallery visitors as they tour Haley’s exhibition.

Congratulations to Shannon Amidon!

Congratulations to KALEID Gallery artist Shannon Amidon on her Arts Council Artist Fellowship Grant Award!

Arts Council Silicon Valley today announced the five recipients of Artist Fellowship Grants for their ground-breaking contributions to the arts in Santa Clara County. This year’s recipients are: Shannon Amidon, San Jose, (Photography); Terry Berlier, La Honda, (Sculpture); David Perez, Campbell, (Spoken Word); PJ Hirabayashi, San Jose, (Music Performance); and, Karen Gabay, San Jose, (Choreography).

Now celebrating its 20th anniversary of recognizing local professional artists, the Arts Council annually awards Artist Fellowships to exceptional artists to enable them to continue to pursue their creative work. Fellowships of $4,000 each are awarded in up to six artistic categories. Artists were selected by experienced judges based upon the artistic quality and originality of work, community impact during the past three years within Santa Clara County, and professional development by demonstrating continued exploration of their art form. Arts Council Silicon Valley is the only funding agency south of San Francisco that awards artists unrestricted grants for career accomplishments.

“As the Artist Fellowship Program observes its 20th anniversary, we are proud to once again recognize outstanding artists who consistently strive to push the boundaries of artistic excellence in their creative pursuits,” said Nancy Glaze, Interim Executive Director, Arts Council Silicon Valley. “This year’s 2011 Artist Fellowship grantees exemplify the highest standards of this program and we are honored to help support their creative journeys.”

Veggielution's AVANT GARDEN 2001

It’s a farm practically under a freeway yet Veggielution is a thriving community farm in urban San Jose. Their food and art fundraiser Avant Garden 2011 brings together chefs and artists to raise funds for the nonprofit whose mission is “cultivating education, community, and social justice through sustainable agriculture.”

The celebration at KALEID Gallery on Friday, April 15, in downtown San Jose will feature five chefs (Laura Stec,Liane Herrick, Joe Gaudet, Jessica Rene Krause and Mike Borgenhagen) cooking from the spring harvest at Veggielution. Some of the produce used: freshly picked kale, radishes, fava beans, garlic, arugula, baby lettuces, beets, carrots and spring onions. The farm’s chickens are even contributing their eggs.

Tickets are available for $10 online and at the door. Food tokens will be sold for $3 each to sample some of the chef’s creations, which include Grilled Spring Veggies and Chipotle Hemp Seed Aioli, Crispy San Jose Tofu or Baby Lettuce and hot sauce, Peruvian Purple Potato and Lacinato Kale Galette with Fava Bean and Green Garlic Chutney.

Along with the delicious food will be a silent auction of farm-inspired art by local artists. Check out the 20+ artists participating in Avant Garden and a sample of their work here.

Doll House Furniture Needed

Artist Lacey Bryant is building a cardboard dollhouse installation for the SubZERO Festival that happens First Friday June 3, 2011. Bigger and better than last year's, it's going to be over 6 feet long and taller than Lacey herself.

She needs your help! If you have any old dollhouse furniture that you'd be willing to donate (or loan) toward the project, please contact her at evilrobot42@gmail.com.

The dollhouse is a bit larger than typical dollhouse scale, but all scales of dollhouse furniture are welcome as the interiors are going to play with reality and scale a bit anyway!

Work with Artist Seyed Alavi

Seyed Alavi, Bay Area artist and current fellow at Montalvo Arts Center, is looking for volunteers to help him construct an installation at Montalvo: a large dome shaped architectural structure that will live in a grove of trees behind Montalvo's West Lawn as part of our Sculpture on the Grounds program.

Volunteers will work directly with Seyed to drill holes, cut plastic spacers, and connect pieces together by wires, nuts, and bolts. The work is fairly simple and will be fun as we transform ordinary materials (plastic pots) into an impressive and substantial freestanding sculpture that will measure approximately 17' wide by 8' tall.

No prior art or engineering experience required. Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

Volunteers are needed:
Tuesday, April 26th from 11am-6pm
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, April 27-29th from 10am-6pm

Volunteers are asked to help for at least two hour blocks.

To arrange a time, please contact Lauren Baines at the Montalvo Arts Center at 408.961.5813 or LBaines[at]montalvoarts.org

Figure Drawing Session with Aerialist Ariyana La Fey

After months of chill, driving rain and long nights it is good to see that spring has finally arrived in our beloved city of San Jose. We here at the local chapter of Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School are in jubilant spirits. Our moods are elevated and our attentions ... airy. Given that our focus lately has been trained on the heavens, we have decided to share that perspective with our student body!

On April 28th, we are pleased to present you with the acrobatic aerialist, Ariyana La Fey! Be amazed as she twists and twirls angelically in the air. Be inspired by her grace and athletic prowess!

Arrive early with your favorite art supplies as space is limited!
(Easels okay to bring, hard backed sketchpads recommended.)

Thursday, April 28th 7pm-10pm
