We had the pleasure of meeting Mark ealier this week....a recent transplant to Santa Cruz from New York City. He's part of the upcoming conference at UC Santa Cruz in May and is looking for proposals. If you're interested in art as an everyday interaction and/or intervention, please submit your ideas following the guidelines below.
Art intervention now! May 14-17 2008
Seeking proposals that introduce different ways of looking for the center of a community through the contemporary art practice. This is a four day event with a base for indoor exhibitions and immediate engagements with a residential, commercial and industrial neighborhood on the west side of Santa Cruz and beyond.
The show is looking for artists and collectives that take into consideration the specifics of site and how art can insert itself into everyday life or a landscape. Santa Cruz has a wealth of history in tourism, subcultures and agriculture and Looking for the Center will lend to the conversation with projects that expand on this local community and bring the unexpected forward in four days. All work put forth should challenge the conventions of ownership, property and patronage.
The submitted proposals must be brief and state the contact information (including phone number) clearly on the same page.
At this point we want only the essential project- limited to 420 words or less.
Please paste the proposal directly into the email.
submissions should be sent to: mark@markwork.info
