INTERPRETIVE ARTWORKS – WATER POLLUTION CONTROL PLANT
GENERAL INFORMATION
The City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs and Environmental Services Department are seeking an artist to create interpretive artworks for long-term display at the Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP). The interpretive artworks are intended to be an integrative aspect of the current WPCP tours that encourage visitors to reflect upon the issues that impact water conservation and use. WPCP tours are conducted in busses; therefore the artworks must be visible at a distance, or incorporate aspects that take this in consideration. There may also be opportunities to develop interpretive artwork for the WPCP lecture hall, or for the introductory element of the tour.
During project development the selected artist will tour the WPCP individually and with tour groups, meet with ESD staff, and learn about the WPCP master plan, which is currently in development.
The artwork will be in addition to signage that will be created for the tour by WPCP staff. The focus of this project will be on the creation of an artwork(s) that enhance the experience of and information about the WPCP provided through the tours.
Artist Eligibility: Artists based in the United States are invited to apply. Applicants must have all necessary documentation and permits to work in the United States at the time of submittal of qualifications.
PROJECT BUDGET: $100,000

PHOTOGRAPHER-IN- RESIDENCE: ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
GENERAL INFORMATION
The City of San Jose’s Office of Cultural Affairs and Environmental Services Department (ESD) are seeking a “photographer-in-residence” to document the people, places and operations involved in the daily workings of the Environmental Services Department Storm Water, Water Pollution Control and Water Recycling Services. The photographer-in-residence will spend approximately 20 hours per week documenting the Department’s work over a six month period and will be provided with a work station at the Water Pollution Control Plant, which will act as home base for this project. At the end of the residency period, the photographer will create a proposal for presenting the photographs (e.g. as a suite of framed photographs, web pages, a publication, etc.) and a separate production contract will be negotiated.
Artist Eligibility: Photographers who are residents of one of the following California counties are invited to apply: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, and Sonoma. Applicants must have all necessary documentation and permits to work in the United States at the time of submittal of qualifications.

Production Period: Up to $20,000 based on proposed presentation format(s)
